Planet Manoe is a small, gentle world orbiting a star slightly warmer than our sun. Its landscape is rolling hills covered in luminescent grass that glows gold and green at dusk. Two quiet moons. Five animal species, all herbivores. No storms of consequence. No predators. No conflict — not as a moral achievement, but simply as a fact of how Manoers evolved.

The ten Manoers who came to Earth were not selected. They were the ones who wanted to go. They repaired a ship nobody understood, climbed inside, and traveled at near light-speed for what felt like weeks — while years passed at home. They found Earth and could not leave. The variety of life here, the music, the wildness of it — and the particular loneliness they found in humans, carrying things that were never meant to be carried alone.
